TEAM OVERVIEW & PIS

Dr. Kim, Yongdeok (김용덕)

Welcome to the "Biohybrid Systems for Biomedical Applications Laboratory". Our group focuses on developing biohybrid systems for various biomedical applications, including disease modeling, biopreservation, and motile living biobots. A biohybrid system combines biological components (e.g., biomolecules, cells, tissues) with artificial materials to better recapitulate biological structures and functions. Specifically, we are aiming to (1) design and fabricate in-vitro vascular or muscular systems capable monitoring of biological functions and stimulating them, (2) biopreservation applications using these systems as a testbed for a longer preservation of biological samples, including cells, organs, and whole organisms at low temperatures, and (3) explore applications in disease modeling and soft robotics. Our research is highly multidisciplinary, spanning materials science, biology, engineering, and medicine. We welcome highly motivated students and researchers from diverse backgrounds to join our team!
